Mohan Menon to me

Appu, I have replied to your issues. What I have been saying is - PLEASE SEE IF THIS WORKS OUT. You can always come out of the deal if it is against the country's interests. Comrade Nasim has provided lot of statistics. He has picked these data from Desabhimani and Peoples Democracy. Now,anybody can give any sort of information without providing the actual source. Your friends specialise in giving mutilated data which is beneficial for the party's propaganda. One thing your friend has ot mentioned is that in the long run nuclear energy will be much cheaper than coal based energy. As I have already mentioned, coal reserves in the country will not last for more than 40 years. Coal is one of the main reasons for high pollution in Eastern India. Living in South you are not aware of the havoc it can cause to the environment. Nuclear energy will work out to be cheaper than hydel power in future. It is the cleanest energy. Your friend talks about nuclear disasters. Of course disasters canhappen anywhere and the causes could be both natural and manmade. With adequate protectio accidents can always be prevented. What happened in Chernobyle ( in the erstwhile Soviet Union) was utter negiligence. The disaster happened because because of total neglect. Repeatedly you and your friend have been saying that we will be bound to USA once this deal becomes operational. It is a blatent propaganda that India will have to purchase nuclear fuel only from USA. There are 43 other countries from whom India can buy nuclear fuel. The 44 country NSG(Nuclear Suppliers Group) have stopped supplying nuclear fuel to the country after the 1999 Pokhran test. Not only this, no one can prevent us from sourcing our own nuclear fuel. Even China has signed an Agreement with USA but with much lessor concessions that were offered to India. Pakistan would like to sign but the USA is unwilling. After the collapse of Soviet Union, USA remains the only super power in the world whether the leftists like it or not.
APJ Abdul Kalam a true son of India has very unambigiously stated that the deal is good for the country. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a person with highest integrity wants the deal to go through. I have not gone through the full text of the agreement. You too hve not gone through the Agreement. Both of us rely on what the respective leaders say. I unequivocally trust APJ Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and definitely NOT Karat and his gang. You with your leftist leanings are parroting what Deshabhimani and Peoples Democracy is churning out day in and day out. APJ and Prime Minister are patriots but the same cannot be said of your friends . The less be said about them the better and I would not like to repeat what I have said about them in my previous mails. As an individual you are one of the nicest person I have come across. Most unfortunately, you are very much biased in favour of Leftist ideology. It is highly regrettable that anintelligent person liek you could be so subjective and absolutely subservient to a particular view point. My request to you is - please be objective; do not blindly follow what your comrades preach.
Appu, I do claim myself to b a Centrist. I was and is a stringent critic of Gandhi/Nehru family.I was also initally impressed with Buddababu because what I thought he was takeing the state of West Bengal back to its days of glory when Dr B C Roy ( one of the ablest Chief Minister the country ever had. He was also one of the top physician in the country those days) industrialised the state. During his days WB was No 1 in India followed by Maharashtra. But Buddhababu unfortunately has fallen into the trap of the party and West Bengal is back to square one. I am a great admirer of Atal Bihar Vajpayee and I appreciate BJP for their principled stand against pampering of minorities soley for the purpose of creating vote banks. That is all. I do not support them for what happened in Gujarat. I support Manmohan Singh and Narasimha Rao for bringing reforms in the country which your leftist comrades had so vehementlyopposed then ( 1991). I did not support Narasimha Rao for bing a mute spectator when the Babri Masjid was demolished by the the RSS/VHP groups.Till recently I was a critic of Manmohan Singh since I found him to be unwilling to take on the Leftists who were against any form of reforms. Now that the garbage ( Leftists) has been dumped and the P M has stated that he will be going for Banking/Insurance reforms, Pension reforms, I support him. I support anyone whom I feel is interested to take the country forward. Past experience has shown that your comrades with their dogmatic ideology can never bring in prosperity. Far from bringing prosperity W B is fast slipping in almost all barometers of progress, whether it is public health, education, infrastructure, housing. The W B Government is a total failure everywhere. Large number of Bangladeshis are crossing the border. All the political parties ( except BJP) go out of their way to help them ingetting voter ID card/ration card and in no time these people become Indian citizens. The demographic pattern has changed in the border areas with Muslims becoming majority in certain areas. These are the people who are recruited by the Jihadi elements indulging in terrorist activity in the country. But WB government will not touch them. The prosperity in Kerala is ONLY due to the DemandDraft economy of the state. The state has nothing to talk about.

With warm regards,

Mohan
